Frequently Asked Questions

What is Skimbook all about?

Skimbook.com is a website created by young college grads who hated doing unnecessary work in college. There is definitely a lot of information you need to learn in college, but unfortunately you have to sift through a ton of fluff to get to the important stuff. Skimbook was created with the idea that if we all do a little, it will come back to us a million times over. Remember the motto, "Divide the work, and conquer the Man!" Don't let the educational system beat you down; in the real world you have to learn to work together!

How can I help get the word out about Skimbook?

The best way you can help us spread the word is by telling your school newspapers about us! We will have an article for free use on our website soon, but if you want to help advertise sooner, ask them to write an original one. Popular blogs are also a great way to mention us. A website like ours is sure to catch their interest. Be sure to notify us too. We will post the link on our website to the blog or newspaper. If you see anything on Facebook or Myspace about us, help pass the word on! Let’s start the Skimbook revolution.

Why should I spend my time writing summaries?

We know that is takes a little extra work to write summaries, but... there are roughly 30 million college students in the US, and if every college student summarized one chapter we would all have a solid set of summaries to help us study. That sounds pretty good to us. But don't think about it on a National level, because we know that there will never be a time when every college student writes a summary. Instead, think about it on a personal level. Get a study group of five trusted friends together in every one of your classes, and divide up your reading. Then post your summaries online for everyone’s use. This will create an environment where you are doing 1/5th the amount of reading to get to the key points. Now, imagine if students across the nation utilize the site in this way…

Is this just for big textbooks?

No! In fact, the idea for this website was really bore out of the fact that most advanced college classes stop using large textbooks after freshman year. Many of the large textbooks already have summaries in them (which shouldn't be posted on our site due to copyright regulations). We are interested in getting all of the smaller books written by your professors as well as the big ones summarized.

Will there be any updates to the website or additions?

We have some really exciting stuff coming soon. We will be adding even more revolutionary features to Skimbook by summer 2009. So keep checking back and telling your friends.
